| ShipScene enables you to independently view ship movements that are tracked in all the major commercial South African port approaches and their harbours, without having to rely upon time consuming, and sometimes outdated means of obtaining this information. Using the Automated Identification System (AIS) which transmits from all commercial vessels, our ship tracking charts are updated on average every 3 minutes, giving an independent, almost real time overview of the movements of these vessels in and around all of the major ports in South Africa. We also offer SMS and Email alerts to notify you of your ships arrival in any of our supported Ports. This ship tracking information, together with other data freely available in the public domain, is intended for all users who have any interest in the shipping and freight forwarding industry in South Africa. |
ShipScene is an SA registered private company that was conceptualised during a conversation amongst a group of shipping professionals, about the frustrations experienced in trying to obtain accurate information regarding the exact whereabouts of ships in and around our busy SA ports. This then progressed to capturing this data using available technology in order to display it on a website. Encouraged by a growing number of users, together with the fact that the site started to feature on Google™, it was decided to employ the services of professional and “Proudly South African” company, Pilotfish, based in Durban. They were mandated to produce a visually appealing web site that not only accurately tracked ship movements in the major ports of South Africa, but also had the ability to provide comprehensive and accurate data about the ships visiting SA ports. |
This is a series of pages on our site, each intended for a specialist aspect of the South African maritime industry. On these pages stakeholders can collectively promote their particular area of expertise, as well as advertise their individual services. We currently feature a Maritime Medical service, as well as Careers and Training pages, and it is planned to expand the hub to include pages dedicated to additional services such as Legal, Engineering, and Ship Chandlers. |
